I learned how to use oil paint from my grandmother, a master artist in the Esther Stevens Brazer Guild. My other grandmother somehow instilled in me an interest in gardening, which has now become a passion (my wife would say an obsession).

My travels about the world have revealed to me how connected we all are, how connected everything is by nature and what we share as commonalities, in spite of all the differences and, maybe, sometimes because of them. A woman I met in Greece told me, when we were discussing all the different people we came across, “You have five fingers on your hand, each one different, which would you cut off?” a very wise woman. She also cooked the best escargot I ever ate.

My work looks at inherent connections as revealed in my garden and elsewhere. The experience of visiting an artist’s studio can be fun, interesting and informative. I enjoy meeting people who visit my studio and hope they not only enjoy meeting me but also can experience my work on a deeper level. As a visitor you see the work in the context of its creation, where the image is germinated and nurtured like the gardens surrounding my studio.

I have lived in North Carolina since 1993.
I am a native by choice and by fortune.
